With the summer semester 2026, we are again bringing life to the new old campus! Following the success of last year's edition, we are celebrating Campus Summer 2026 with a series of highlights and events - including the Campus Festival, cosy picnics during lunch breaks and more. Let's get together and enjoy the summer!
Events Campus Summer 2026
Kick-off event: Welcome of the students in first semester
13th of April 2026, 10.00-11.00 am, H7
On Monday, the 13th of April, Rector Prof. Dr Angelika Epple, mayor Dr Christina Bauer and the General Students’ Committee (AStA) of Bielefeld University will officially welcome all first semester students in Lecture Hall 7 (H7) in the main building. All students who begin studying at Bielefeld University in summer semester 2026 are invited.

Everything you need for a healthy start to your semester! Inform yourself about physical, mental and social health at the info booths, get to know campus life and socialize. Additionally, get to know relevant places to go inside and outside university.
- Lunch Break in the Greenery, 20.05., 25.06., 14.07.2026
Getting out of the office, lecture hall, or seminar room, taking a break together, and relaxing in the fresh air on a nice day: This year during Campus Summer, the Lunch Break in the Greenery will return and provide an opportunity to socialize and unwind over having a meal, coffee, or some ice cream together.
If you want to, you can bring a picnic blanket and get comfortable on the lawn. Remember to bring bin bags and sun protection.
An entertainment programme is being planned; more information will follow shortly.
- Reading café, 27.05.2026
27th of May, 11.00 am – 6.00 pm, Student Service Center
organised by SKILLS
ZLL’s reading café invites students to focus on reading in a cosy atmosphere together with fellow students. Additionally, you may get hints on how to improve strategies for tackling scientific literature and find a place to share your own reading habits.

The Lego®-playground offers students, teaching staff and all staff the opportunity to find creative solutions to problems, generate ideas and possible applications of interlocking bricks at university. Its underlying idea loosely builds on Lego® Serious Play®, however, besides following building instructions, it is also possible to simply build away.

Actively on the move
- Guided campus tours, 29.04.2026 & 07.05.2026

7th of May 2026, 10.00 am - 12.00 pm
Bielefeld University offers all new staff members, as well as interested ones, a guided tour over its campus. Besides visiting the BITS, the library, and the university’s own gym UniFit, participants will also gain information on the constructional alterations of both campuses, north and south. The tour lasts two hours and takes place partly outdoors. The starting point is in front of the new main entrance on the inside. The tour will be conducted in German.

A tour conducted in English will take place on the 7th of May. This tour is also open for new students at Bielefeld University. To register, please email uni.intern@uni-bielefeld.de.
- CITY CYCLING, 30.05. - 19.06.2026
30th of May to 19th of June 2026
CITY CYCLING starts again in 2026! The competition calls for municipalities to cycle as many kilometres as possible in a set 21-day timeframe. These are either tracked manually via Website or automatically via CITY CYCLING-app. But not only do municipalities face off against one another, but also local teams. To support the joint team of Bielefeld University and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, simply select the team “Universität Bielefeld und Hochschule Bielefeld“ in our municipality, hop on your bike and get cycling! Last year our campus’ cyclists managed to ride over 30 thousand kilometres and avoid almost five tons of CO2!

- Walk & Talk – Actively learning for exams, 17.06.2026
17th of June 2026, 4.00 pm-5.00 pm, B2-126
Organised by SKILLS
Exam-season is approaches, and you do not want to study all by yourself behind a desk? ZLL’s SKILLS-team offers an alternative with their “Walk & Talk – Actively learning for exams”. This event connects learning with movement and socializing. After an initial exchange about the topic in the workshop space, participants will get on a stroll of roughly 1.7 kilometres across the campus to test different learning methods. The workshop will be held in German.

- DFH Future Festival, 02.-05.07.2026
2nd - 5th of July 2026
After a successful first edition last year, the future festival „Think. Feel. Act.“ („Denken. Fühlen. Handeln.“) will take place again this summer. The festival is organised by AG 10 - Migration Pedagogy and Anti-Racist Criticism of the Faculty of Educational Science at Bielefeld University and Welthaus Bielefeld e.V.
This edition is primarily dedicated to the climate crisis and its consequences, such as wars, refugee migration and the increasing acceptance of inhumane policies, as well as the question of how these complex problems can be solved without creating more injustices.
These and other questions will be explored during the festival. Further information can be found here.
